GREG MENDEZ ALONE

Philadelphia singer-songwriter Greg Mendez has shared new single ‘Alone’, an intimately weathered treasure. The latest from his upcoming EP First Time/Alone, the track is a product of Mendez’s return to guitar following a wrist surgery which required a four-month recovery period. Although 'Alone' emerges from a stretch of boredom, it has a serenely rustic sound with warm intrigue. Mendez's somber guitar strums are muted and raw-hemmed, urged to draw themselves out with commanding strokes. His lyrics unfold with straightforward conviction, accentuated by unrefined harmonies to highlight the heaviness of his isolation through disillusioned lines: "I'm a lonely winter away from giving in/ I'm alone outside your house/ The snowflakes are falling like lead on my head/ I'm crushed like a moth when it's dead." 'Alone' plays as though you've strolled past a window into Mendez's mind. You think that you shouldn't stick around, it's too personal. But something compels you to take those few steps back and watch his words pour out. -Kayla Sandiford
